In the spring of 2011, the Owner/President of Cornell Orthotics and Prosthetics, Keith Cornell, approached a new above knee amputee, Posie Mansfield, about his vision for creating a support group for his patients. Together they went about seeing this vision become a reality. In the fall of 2011, three amputees sat around a table sharing their stories and it became clear at that moment that this was something that was needed and would be an important source for amputees to find support and fellowship. We called ourselves the COP Amputee Support Group, and in 2012 we changed it to the COP Amputee Association- COPAA for short. In 2014 we gained non-profit status, formed a board and Posie Mansfield became our first president, a role she continues to hold today. We meet the second Wednesday of every month at the office of Cornell Orthotics and Prosthetics 100 Cummings Center, Suite 207 H, Beverly, MA. We also partner with Whittier Rehab Hospital in Bradford, MA where support group meetings have also been held. In addition to gathering in person, we have a Zoom component where folks can join us online and interact with the group.
